News on the farm

Wow, what a wet end to the year it has been! We have managed to loose our bridges over the dam thanks to the river overflowing. This was replaced really quickly as there was not access to the toilet at the dam anymore. There is now so much sand that has come downstream that we have gained a sand bank in the dam. Thankfully our waterhole is also overflowing and it will be interesting to see if it dries out this winter. The bottom half of the farm is like a swamp and it was so funny to see all our visitors shoes drying outside after every walk. It is so nice to have visitors here that enjoy nature and who love our walking trails. We have welcomed 3 new female ostriches to the farm and it has been very entertaining having them around. They were initially camped off near our house so that we could tame them a little to ensure the safety of our visitors and so that they could settle in safely. We have spent a lot of time removing invasive species on the farm and this will be ongoing throughout the year. Our first cold snap of the year is here, but no worry as we have snuggly warm blankets on every bed and nothing beats a cozy fire in the winter. We continue improving small things in the units to ensure a comfortable stay and had fun making little easter egg surprises for everyone. A huge big happy New Years to everyone! It has been a very interesting year for us learning the ropes and I believe it has gone well. We have managed to improve the facilities at the dam, maintain the roads and walking trails and add some finishing touches to the units. We had a very long dry season with very little rain in November and were still fighting fires in the area in December. We have welcomed new baby buck to the farm and enjoyed watching them "find their legs". We enjoyed each and every visitor visiting the farm and went the extra mile to ensure that everyone was comfortable and enjoyed their stay. There is something amazing about the bushveld that is so quiet that when you leave you feel rejuvenated. We have lots of plans for the coming year and hope to start working on our campsites in June/July. There has been a lot of rain over the last month and our rivers are full and the grass is green. We look forward to hosting you, your family and friends.

We fell in love with this farm the minute we saw it. We have been here for 1 month so far and are enjoying every minute. We have lived in Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda and have finally come back "home". We have had some amazing experiences so far, from Zebra eating grass outside our patio, hearing Kudu bark at night, and a baboon spider in our bedroom. Not sure how long we were sleeping together and am trying not think about it. The current temperature is lovely with hot sunny days and cool evenings. The leaves are slowly changing colour which is lovely to see. The animals all look fat and healthy and we love our weekly game drives. We hope you enjoy your stay with us as much as we love being here.
